Annie Laura Ray, graduate of RHS class of 1975, will hold a book signing on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. as part of the 2021 Rockdale Fair and Rodeo.
H e r book, A Thief, A Servant, A Teacher, follows Ray’s life which she uses to shine a light on some of her darkest hours in the hopes it will inspire others.
Ray is the daughter of the late Annie Marie Ellison and granddaughter of the late Laura Mae Monroe.
At her lowest, Annie was homeless, living out of her Volkswagen van.
“I was wounded, hurt, and struggling,” she said. “I looked in the mirror at myself, and, for the first time, I did not recognize the woman staring back at me.”
Sometimes she scraped enough money together to rent a motel room and seeing a Bible there gave Annie hope. That Bible brought back a flood of good memories including the voice of the grandmother who raised her to be a God-fearing child growing up in a small Texas town.
“I couldn’t see my grandmother, but I had her voice with me,” Annie said. “Something started changing in me; I didn’t know what it was, I just knew that it was different.”
And now? Now, Annie Ray is a community leader, a retired teacher and an ordained minister.
Once you’ve read Annie’s book, you will hear her voice in your head, and you will be as determined as she was to follow God’s path.
Ray’s book can be purchased on Amazon.
