City of Rockdale Mayor Brett Boren tendered his resignation, the city council accepted it at Monday night’s meeting and will appoint a new mayor for his unexpired term until a new mayoral election is held in May of 2025. Boren moved outside Rockdale city limits making him ineligible to continue in his position. Also at the meeting, council members Brad Caffey (West Ward) and Scott Starnes (East Ward) were sworn in for their new three-year terms. Lin Perry was unanimously elected mayor pro tem for a second time.
Perry made two proclamations proclaiming May 6-10 as Economic Development Week and proclaimed the 2024 Texas Bioscience graduates, five of whom were at Monday night’s meeting.
A budget workshop was held to find out the city council’s priorities and the calendar. Daniel Willie spoke about a potential childcare tax exemption he wants the council to consider.
The council took action on the second reading of an ordinance to amend some of the street names of the Cornerstone Subdivision. The Reporter will have a story coming soon about the names.
Approval was given for installation of new downtown streetlights.
