POLICE REPORT
A Rockdale motel which was threatened with being shut down in June by the state has received a reprieve and will remain open.
On June 5 the Budget Inn was visited by the State Fire Marshal, which found “numerous safety violations,” according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich of the Rock-dale Police Department.
He said the violations included lack of fire extinguishers and problems with the electrical code.
The motel was initially given 30 days to correct the problems, but the time limit was apparently extended.
The state had the authority to shut down the business if it did not comply.
“We have received word from the Fire Marshal’s office that work has been done on the building and that the serious violations have been corrected,” Goodrich said.
“There are still a few things that haven’t been fixed, but those are apparently not enough to shut the place down,” he added.
ACCIDENT—Police were called to an accident in the parking lot of Meadowbrook Baptist Church at 11:40 a.m. Thursday.
Police said an SUV driven by Morgan Laughlin of Rockdale was in collision with a parked, unoccupied SUV owned by Kenneth Gibson of Taylor.
Damages were termed minor.
Minor damages were also reported in a 3:08 p.m. Thursday collision in the Dairy Queen parking lot.
Police said vehicles involved were driven by Shirley White of Norman-gee and Leann Buchanan of Rockdale.
OFFENSES—Police were called to a pair of shoplifting incidents at Walmart during the week.
Goodrich said a suspect was apprehended inside the store in one of the incidents and there was CCTV footage of the other.
CITATIONS—Police issued 34 citations during the past week including 18 for speeding. Other citations included six for driving with license invalid and two for running a red light.
SERVICE CALLS— Offices responded to 197 calls for service during the past seven days and there were 99 calls received through the 911 emergency system.
