One big construction project and a lot of re-roofing thank to an early spring hailstorm have combined to lift Rock-dale building permits over the $1-million level just five months into 2019. Permits, issued at City Hall have totaled $1,097,556 through the end of May. Almost two-thirds of that is one project. The $600,000 Di-Hard Fitness Studio is going up on Josie Lane and the permit was issued in March. Constructor is Perry & Perry Builders. A crane was erecting metal frame work at 220 Josie Lane. There have also been 21 roofing jobs begun since April when much of Rock-dale got socked with hail during a severe thunderstorm. In fact, 19 of those roofing jobs were permitted in May alone. May permits totaled $148,097. The $1,097,556 total to-date for 2019 is impressive but the year has a long was to go to catch 2018. In May, 2018, one project alone totaled $5-million. That was the permit for the new Tiger Stadium which was completed last summer, hosted its first football game in October and its first graduation last month. Final permit total for 2018 was $211,374,309, making it the second highest building year since permits have been recorded. Permits reflect only construction within the Rockdale city limits.
