A project that has been in the works for a while now finally got the go ahead.
The softball field at Milano High School is going to get lights for play at night.
“Yes. That is the plan. We have been talking and planning for about a year, but then COVID hit and obviously everyone had other priorities,” said Wendy King, MISD athletic director. “We did stay in contact during that time and Chad (Harris) reassured me that the project would go forward. He has remained true to his word.”
Harris who is the CEO at Whinstone US said helping out in the community is part of his business philosophy.
“Our team believes that the pathway to leadership, teamwork and competitiveness is greatly influenced from youth sports. When we learned about the challenges that the parents, students and faculty at the Milano school faced, we felt compelled to step in and see how we could support the district,” Harris said.
All the equipment, poles and lights, have arrived, he said.
“We are doing the engineering for the concrete footing for the 80-foot light poles and we will be lining up the installation in the next 30 days,” he said.
“We reached out to our electrical vendors to help procure the lighting at the best price and asked H&K electrical contractors to help with the installation,” Harris said.
King said that lighting the playing fields has been an ongoing topic within MISD.
“As a district, we have visited and revisited the need for lights on our ball fields. Administrators have had to make tough decisions prioritizing the needs of our students. As it should be, educational needs and facilities have been more important, and we have made great strides in these areas in recent years,” she said, But, the idea of lighting our fields has always been on our minds. When we were approached by these business leaders with the opportunity to get the softball field lit, it seemed too good to be true.”
But it is true and the district is grateful for the work.
“We are extremely thankful to H&K Electrical Contractors and Whinstone US Inc. Construction Team for their generosity to the Milano ISD athletic program specifically to the girl's softball team. We are grateful for this amazing partnership and hope they understand it was not just a resource but it is an invaluable investment for our district and community,” said Catrina Steinbecker, the principal at Milano High School.
“Now that the project is scheduled to get off the ground, we are so very thankful to Chad Harris, Kara Clore and everyone else involved in providing this much needed addition to our athletic facilities,” King said.
Harris said that making the plan to get behind the project was just doing business for his team.
“This was an easy approval process from our Whinstone team—Ashton Harris, Lyle Theriot, David Schatz and Chad Harris. The return on investment will be the years of enjoyment of many families in the community,” he said.
