There are lots of events happening this week in Rockdale that will help you get some Christmas shopping done, fill your belly and have some fun.

THURSDAY— O n Thursday is the first Sip and Shop event which will run through Dec. 22 every Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m.

Participating stores this year are Charming Blossoms, Tisket-A-Tasket, Hodge Podge Etc., Sunny and Sage Market, Christian Information Book Store, Rustic Charm Décor and Boutique, Shear Gypsy and The Snug. Sip wine while you get your Christmas shopping done.

Heavenly Treasures will also be open during those hours.

At 6 p.m. gather at Wolf Park for the annual Rockdale Downtown Association’s Christmas Tree Lighting. Enjoy chili, hot chocolate and cookies before the tree is lit at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.

This year 75 pounds of meat was donated by Tripp’s Tavern and the chili will be cooked by the good folks at Climate Control AC & Heating. Other sponsors are Riot (formerly Whinstone) and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

SATURDAY— The Rockdale Chamber is having a Christmas Craft Market Saturday at Wolf Park downtown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Santa is sure to be there.

En Gedi Winery and Texas Beer Co. will be serving. There will be home crafted furniture made to order, food of all kinds, Bring CASA to Milam County will have a giveaway to raise money and various organizations will also have fund raisers.

There will be kids’ games, artisan vendors, cotton candy, popcorn and fun for the whole family.

Rockdale Chamber Director Denise Brock said, “Tell your friends and co-workers, bring the family. The Chamber and Backyard Farmers Market have joined together in this venture. It might be a little cool, so layer-up and come on out. Please come help support a community coming together.”

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. take part in the 22nd annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner at First Baptist Church.

“During the past 22 years with donations from the community we have served 700 to 1,000 dinners each year,” said organizer Pam King.

The meal will feature turkey, green beans, corn, dressing, cranberry sauce, bread and dessert.

The organization also delivers meals to the elderly, people in senior housing, sick and shut-in families and families with no transportation.

At 7 p.m. that night, The Kay Theater will have author Mike Robertson speak about his book, The Show Must Go On, which documents smalltown theaters. Robertson has photographed 258 theaters and The Kay Theater made his top 10 list.

Robertson will speak on the varying architectural designs, the rise of popularity of theaters and why theaters are still relevant to our communities.

And finally, on Saturday night at 9 p.m., K8 & The Krushers will appear live at The Ranch for their first ever performance in Rockdale. Drummer, Nate Batten, is a Rockdale native. This is a concert the whole family can enjoy.
