There are still more open seats than there are candidates that have filed to run in the area elections on May 1.

So far only nine candidates have announced their intention to run for office with six of those being in Milano.
So far one candidate has filed for office in Rockdale for the one of the two seats on the City Council whose terms expire this year. Michael Scott Starnes has announced his intention to run for the east side open seat.
Troy Zinn, who is currently the Rockdale Independent School District board president has filed for reelection to Place 2, according to a district spokeswoman.
In the Milano City Council race four incumbents have filed to reclaim their seats. Mayor Karl Westbrook is running again as are council members Steve Honeycutt, Bryan Woods and Glenda Westbrook.
Incumbent Shawn Walton and Levi Keen have signed up to run for the open seats on the Milano Independent School District board.
In Thorndale, incumbent Jared Melde has signed up to run for a new term on the council, but no one has signed up to run for school board.
