After three much appreciated weeks of declining COVID-19 cases in Milam County, the numbers have headed back up.
As of presstime Wednesday morning, 41 cases were reported for the week, according to County Judge Steve Young.
That lifted the cumulative total to 396, up 41 from last Wednesday morning’s 355.
Tuesday’s total alone was 17, tying the one-day recorded originally set on July 29.
However, 12 of those 17 were Milam residents testing positive from the 84 persons tested Thursday at the Thorndale VFW Hall.
Results of those tests were added to the Milam total on Monday. Number of non-Milam residents testing positive at the Thorndale event were not listed.
The 41 Milam County resident testing positive during the week are the most since 69 positive tests were recorded for the seven-day period ending July 22.
NUMBERS—Number of Milam residents hospitalized from the virus went down during the week, with three reported at presstime Wednesday, compared to five one week ago.
There are 36 active cases, up 13 from 23 last week.
The Milam County Health Department reported nine probable cases, down six from 15 last Wednesday. The department is monitoring 83 cases, up 12 from 71 a week ago.
The county continues to work on “quick testing,” expected to be in operation by early September.
DEATHS—Something has changed in regard to deaths attributable to COVID-19.
Among adjacent counties, roughly, of comparable size, Milam was the first to record a death attributable to COVID-19, and maintained the dubious honor of “leading” the smaller adjacent counties for months.
Not any more. As of Wednesday morning, Lee County has recorded 12 deaths, Burleson 6, Falls 3 and Robertson 3.
Milam has logged three deaths, same as last Wednesday.
(Milam County is roughly 25 to 30 percent larger in population than Burleson, Falls, Lee and Robertson counties).
