CAMERON—A “remembrance” ceremony in honor of the late Milam County Sheriff David Greene will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the sheriff’s office in the Milam County Law Enforcement Center.
July 19 almost marks the one-year anniversary of Sheriff Greene’s unexpected death.
Greene died July 20, 2017, after sustaining a massive heart attack while on vacation in Oregon.
‘EVERY DAY’—“We continue to miss him every day and we want to make certain that the memory of his service to the people and to his employees will forever be remembered, even after we too are gone,” Sheriff Chris White said.
White served as Greene’s Chief Deputy.
Greene will be honored with a memorial plaque at the back door of the sheriff’s office and there’s a reason for the placement, according to White.
“Everyone who visited the sheriff’s office during his service knew that Sheriff Greene could be found at the back door, smoking a cigarette, and discussing, solving and keeping up to date on the issues and problems facing Milam County.
“The back door was commonly referred to the ‘back porch,’ so we felt that a memorial plaque placed there in his honor was something of which he would have approved,” White said.
NO SPEAKER—White said the event is being held at 6 p.m. to give working people a chance to attend.”
He said a section of the law enforcement center’s northeast parking lot will be closed
“We believe that there will be plenty of parking at the complex,” White said.
