Nearly 200 people attended the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet Thursday night, the first one to be held after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
Stoney’s Liquor provided a cocktail hour and then a catered meal by Lindsey Lillard of Bake My Day Sweet Treats got the evening started with beef and chicken fajitas with rice and beans and all the extras.
The American Legion Post 358 provided the Presentation of Colors, while Lynn Martin sang the National Anthem. Dr. Dennis Brooks provided the invocation and benediction.
Economic Development Director of the MDD, Jim Gibson, announced a new leadership program.
The featured speaker was Ken Cooke, editor of the Fredericksburg Standard.
Paul Dixon, president of the United Way of South Milam County, gave out certificates of appreciation for making the community a better place to live.
Perry & Perry Builders was awarded the W.H. Cooke Award for service to the United Way. Whinstone US was awarded the Outstanding Business Award and Bill and Patsy Jones were awarded the Outstanding Family Award. Continuous Supporter Awards were taken home by Attorney’s of Texas Title, Bassler Energy Services and Abiding Choice.
Special supporter certificates were presented to Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que, KRXT, The Rockdale Reporter, Thorndale Champion, Texas Propane, Alpha One Auto Group and Collier and Peggy Perry.
And the “big four” award winners were Terri Buchanan with Camrock Clinic who was awarded Outstanding Business of the Year, Jason Hale with Street Ministries was awarded Outstanding Organization of the Year, Lee Parsley was awarded Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Citizen of the Year was awarded to Joyce Dalley.
