Amid concerns of the rising COVID case count in Milam County, the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce has decided it would be best to cancel the Trail of Lights.
On Friday, Milam County Judge Steve Young reported an increase of 77 new cases for the past week.
“Many organizations have indicated they haven’t been able to meet to coordinate an effort,” said Denise Brock, Chamber Director. “There’s a lot of prep work that goes into an event like this—for the participants, vendors and the Chamber— and we don’t want anyone to risk getting sick.”
As an alternative the Rockdale Chamber is enhancing their annual Residential & Business Holiday Decoration Contest.
“We’re disappointed to have to cancel this year’s Parade/Trail of Lights,” Brock said, “but we encourage our community to share in the Christmas spirit by lighting up Rockdale with decorations on their homes and businesses.”
Businesses and residents can post a picture of their decorations on the Rockdale Chamber’s “Light Up Rockdale” Decorations Contest Facebook Event. Post your business or residential entry in the discussion of the Chamber’s “Light Up Rockdale” Facebook event including the street address.
If you’re not on Facebook, email your photo entry with your name and street address to info@ rockdalechamber.com.
The deadline to register is Dec. 17. Judging will occur that weekend and awards for business and residential displays will be published in the The Rockdale Reporter.
