TEMPLE—Apparently the legendary Texas mega-convenience store Buc-ees really does have everything.
On Sunday night it had the 42-year-old Hutto man for whom the Milam County Sheriff’s Department has been searching in connection with multiple theft and burglary charges.
Chad Lee Bankston was arrested after fleeing across I-35 in front of the Temple Buc-ees and taken to the Bell County Jail where he remained at presstime Tuesday.
Milam County Sheriff Chris White said his office began posting photos of Bankston with law enforcement throughout the area after learning from Jennifer Lee Blye, the first person to be charged in connection with what the department termed a theft ring, that Bankston “would not go to jail” and “would shoot it out with law enforcement” if they tried to arrest him.
SPOTTED—White said his department was notified a state trooper was at the Temple store and recognized Bankston from the photos.
“The trooper observed him exit the store and walk to a U-Haul truck which was towing a Cadillac SUV.
White said the DPS, and other law enforcement at the location attempted to take Bankston into custody.
“He ran from the parking lot, but was quickly subdued after a brief chase across Interstate 35,” White said.
Bankston was taken to the Bell County Jail to face a variety of charges including new ones from the Sunday incident.
RECOVERED—He was wanted for theft and burglary charges after the Milam Sheriff’s Department located more than $100,000 worth of stolen equipment on Aug. 4 in Thorndale.
White said more stolen property from a Milam County burglary was recovered from the Cadillac SUV which Bankston was towing when he was captured Sunday.
