Rockdale organizations are gearing up for Christmas with several different celebrations, the first of which is today, Thursday, Nov. 21.
Ch r i s tma s T r e e Lighting— Rockdale Downtown Association’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting starts this Thursday at 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy free chili, hot chocolate and cookies before the tree lighting which will be held at 7 p.m.
The good folks at Climate Control AC & Heating will again be making the homemade chili with meat donated by Rockdale Meat Market.
Feel free to bring lawn chairs to watch the tree light up while listening to Christmas music by DJ Ant.
Rockdale Community Christmas Market— You’ll be able to get your Christmas shopping done this Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cardinal Roofing, 1613 West Cameron Avenue, with nearly 70 vendors including 10 food vendors so you can stay all day and eat lunch and buy treats.
City of Angels— RIOT Platforms employees have already set up the lighted angel display, as well as all the downtown decorations, at Bridge Park which honors departed family members. If you would like to honor a family member with an angel the cost is $200, and the deadline is Dec. 1. Drive by and view this beautiful display.
Chr istmas at the
Kay— This annual musical event is sponsored by the Communities in Concert Band and the Matinee Musical Club and will be held on Sunday, December 1 at 2 p.m. (There were some online ads stating that it was starting at 3 p.m., but that has changed. The Rising Star Baptist Church Choir will be featured, and admission is free.
The Kay Theater Movies— Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m., the Kay will feature The Muppet Christmas Carol sponsored by Jason Jenkins, Edward Jones Financial Advisor.
Home Alone will be the featured movie on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. sponsored by Tiger Painting.
For both movies admission is $5 with $1 concessions and popcorn. Attendees are invited to bring their favorite take out for dinner.
Dec. 7 will be a busy day with several Christmas events planned.
Breakfast with Santa— The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Patterson Center.
Attendees will enjoy a pancake breakfast as well as lots of children’s activities and, of course, meeting Santa.
Tickets are $5. This event is a fundraiser for Christmas Roundup.
Christmas Parade— The Chamber’s annual Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Parade starts at Fair Park and will travel downtown on US 79. Judging of entries will be held at 5 p.m.
Winter Wonderland at Wolf Park— After the parade enjoy the second annual Christmas Bazaar featuring food, music, kid’s games and a local craft market.
B uddy Oney Toy Run— Dec. 7 is also the day of the Buddy Oney Toy Run which starts at 9 a.m. at The Ranch. This event provides toys to Milam County’s less fortunate children.
