RSBC to host revival,

play in future weeks

Rising Star Baptist

Church, 1055 Texas Street, Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor, has a number of activities planned in upcoming

weeks.

The church is currently conducting a drive for new and gently used tennis

shoes for students of the

Rockdale ISD.

Donations will be accepted after 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Oct. 31 at the church.

REVIVAL—Rising Star will hold a fall revival Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 16-18.

Services begin at 7 p.m. each day. Speaker will be Dr. Anthony Lang, pastor of West Union Baptist Church, Bryan.

PLAY—At 7 p.m. Nov. 3, the church’s Fine Arts Ministry will present a faith-based play written and directed by Stanley Miller.Co-director is Joyce Ford.

Title is “The Life of Emma Pearl/The Burial of Old Jack Devil.” Donation is $5 per person.

VETERANS DAY—Special guest speaker during the 11 a.m. service on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, will be Willy Culberson (U.S. Army, retired) of Smithville.

FOOD FOR KIDS—Rising Star holds a “Food for Kids” meal at 5 p.m. each fourth Wednesday. Anyone wishing to donate to this effort can call Rev. Johnson, 512-576-4483.

New grief ministries

set at Meadowbrook

Meadowbrook Baptist Church is sponsoring new ministries for the community entitled “GriefShare.”

Three new grief groups are being added in the next few months as follows:

• Nov. 3—Surviving the Holiday, a 2-½ hour seminar.

• Jan. 7, 2019—Loss of a Spouse, a 2-½ hour seminar.

• Jan. 14-April 8, 2019—GriefShare, a 13-week video program taught by 46 of the top leaders in grief and recovery.

St. Thomas Episcopal

to hold evening prayer

St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Rockdale is holding Evening Prayer every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., according to the Rev. Pam Graham, vicar.

“On the first Wednesday of the month we will celebrate Holy Eucharist.

“All are welcome to attend,” she said.

St. Thomas Episcopal is located at the Davilla-Green corner.

Thorndale church plans benefit banquet Nov. 3

THORNDALE—Mount Zion Baptist Church of Thorndale, Rev L.E. Caldwell Sr., pastor, is having a benefit banquet Saturday. Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce Hall, 120 South Main.

Tickets are $15.

Chili supper Saturday at Lawrence Chapel

THORNDALE—Lawrence Chapel, 2800 CR 473, will hold its annual chili supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 in the fellowship hall.

Proceeds will go to maintaining the church, cemetery, fellowship hall and grounds. Donations are appreciated and the supper is in need of cakes, pies, homemade ice cream and items for a silent auction.

First Presbyterian lists upcoming services

First Presbyterian Church has listed upcoming events through November as follows:

• Bible study, 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays in Fellowship Hall, led by Pastor David Puss-man.

• Sunday School resumed for pre-schoolers through 6th graders on Sunday; choir practice at 7 p.m.
