World Day of Prayer

Lutheran Church
First Presbyterian Church and Peace Lutheran Church are joining together in the planning for this year’s World Day of Prayer, a movement that brings the realities of women in distant places into local communities. This year’s host country is Zimbabwe.
The event is symbolized by an annual day of celebration on the first Friday of March.
This year’s celebration will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on March 6 at 11 a.m. with a light lunch to follow.
‘Grace and Guts’ slated at Cowboy Church
Milam County Cowboy Church Women’s Ministry Team will be hosting “Grace and Guts” with Shannon Petty on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Grace and Guts offers women a checklist of practical solutions to the emotions and attitudes that keep women from fulfilling their divine purpose.
Admission is $10 and there will be a light lunch.
First Baptist offers

First Baptist Church in Rockdale hosts a weekly Wednesday night contemporary worship service.
Service begins at 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening and all are welcome.
St. Paul to hold annual BBQ meal, live auction
THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran Church and School will hold its annual BBQ brisket meal and live auction fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Thorndale Firemen’s Hall on FM 486 North.
Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with dine-in or to-go plates available for $10.
Live auction begins at 12:30 p.m. Desserts available for a free will donation.

St. Joseph’s to celebrate 140th anniversary
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will be celebrating their 140th anniversary on Saturday, March 7, at the Rockdale KC Hall.
Bishop Joe S. Vasquez will preside over mass at 10 a.m. with lunch to follow. The KC Hall will cater chicken with parishioners providing sides.

Peace Lutheran Church Feb/March activities include Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m., weekly bible study in the fellowship all at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, a memorial service for long-time church member Violet (Vi) Howell on Feb. 1, monthly Women of the Church meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Patricia McKee, a fellowship luncheon will follow Sunday worship on Feb. 23, and Ash Wednesday Service will start at 6 p.m. on Wed., Feb 26.
Annual Methodist
Men’s Chili Supper
slated February 20
The Methodist Men of St. John’s United Methodist Church will hold their annual Chili Supper fund-raiser on Thursday, Feb. 20, serving from 5 until 7 p.m. (dine-in or take-out). The event will be held at the church fellowship hall, Summit at Hillcrest streets in Rockdale.
Tickets are priced at $9 each and can be purchased from any member of the Methodist Men and will also be available at the doors on the day of the event.
John Shoemake, Methodist Men president, said all funds raised by the annual supper are used by the organization to provide handicap ramps and other community service projects for those in need of help. “We will appreciate the continued fine community support we have had for this event,” he said.
