At a special meeting of the Rockdale City Council on Tuesday night, members heard presentations from two companies who put offers in for the property the city owns at 1166 West US 79. This is the property near Rockdale Intermediate School where the police station was originally going to be built.
Brothers Chris and Quint Foster with Foster Limited presented their idea for a combination office space and climate controlled storage. From what they told the council, the building would look like a strip center from the front with the one-story storage units in the back.
They said six to 12 office spaces would have a front door with a small area for phones and paperwork which would open into small warehouses in the back. The storage units on the back of the property would be fenced with keypad entrances, and the entire property would have cameras all around for safety.
They would employ one full-time employee and one part-time employee.
Barry Barker with Post Oak Hardware in Elgin was the second presenter. He proposed an Ace Hardware-affiliated store of 12,000 square feet which would have an outdoor living and nursery section. The store would employ 14 to 18 people both full-time and part-time.
The city council members said they would like to meet in executive session to discuss both proposals and will do so at their May 9 meeting. They could choose one or the other, or not choose either.
