It’s budget time again in the City of Rockdale and meetings are scheduled for four consecutive afternoons Aug. 5-8 at City Hall to plan the document.

Often the council has needed only one or two of those sessions to make plans and has canceled the others.

Last Tuesday the council gathered and okayed $11,663.78 in expenditures in connection with the 2018-19 budget.

OUTLOOK—City Manager Chris Whittaker said he didn’t foresee “many surprises” in the new budget.

“Insurance costs are projected to be up about four percent,” he said. “They have increased as much as 20 percent per year in the past.”

He said pay increases of around 1-1/2 percent will be considered in the budget-planning.

As for the 2019-20 tax rate, Whittaker said the city will know more when it receives it final appraisal numbers from the Milam Appraisal District (AD) and can determine its rollback rate.

MEETING—Expenditures okayed by the council include a pump for a city sewer truck, a pump for the baby pool at the municipal swimming pool, hydraulics for a city backhoe and several other items.

Votes were unanimous by the council.
