Nicole Hirsch’s job is Rockdale.
The city’s fi rst-ever marketing director’s fi rst day on the job was Monday and she is already making the rounds, learning the city and people she will assist.
“It’s exciting,” she said. “This week I’m meeting many people and I’m ready to help in any way I can.”
MULTI-FACETED—
City Manager Chris Whittaker said Hirsch’s job will be multi-faceted.
“First, it’s to put ‘heads in beds’,” he said. That’s the term tourism developers like to use to refl ect getting business for an area’s motels. It’s especially relevant in Hirsch’s case because the marketing director position is funded by the city’s hotel-motel (HOT) tax, which is generated through a tax on visitors spending the night in local motels.
She also will prom0te Rockdale through a variety of ways, including social media, and assist its businesses.
Hirsch comes to Rockdale from Dallas where she was involved marketing a number of businesses.
SOCIAL MEDIA—
Hirsch is well versed in social media and says assisting businesses to promote “awareness” through that technology fi gures into the mix.
She is impressed with activities already offered in Rockdale, such as the annual Fair and the Chamber of Commerce’s Buckin’ Bulls and BBQ.
“Get people here and get them to stay longer is a goal we can work toward,” she said.
24/7—“I’m here to help,” she sums up the job. “I’m looking forward to working with, everyone.”
While Hirsch is in the process of getting an offi ce, and will keep some hours there, Whittaker said a great deal of her time will be out of the offi ce.
“I look on this as pretty much a 24/7 job,” she said.
