It’s Texas. It’s summer. It’s hot.

So it’s not surprising that city officials are asking local residents to conserve water.

Right now that’s a voluntary request. It might change later unless what’s started out as an exceptionally dry summer suddenly changes course.

City Manager Barbara Holly asked local residents to conserve water to lessen the chances of the city invoking the first step of a multi-step plan which could lead to mandatory restrictions.

“We are currently experiencing very high water consumption and are nearing Stage 1 of our Drought Contingency Plan,” Holly said.

She said a fire hydrant flushing has already been canceled.

“We ask that customers voluntarily reduce irrigation and unnecessary water use,” she said.
