For the first time in a long time the City of Rockdale will end the year in the black. In closing out the 2020-2021 budget the city will have $150,847 in the general fund and $68,776 in the enterprise fund.
A contentious vote was recorded when a council member wanted to ban a business from coming to Rockdale because they sold vape products. It narrowly passed by one vote with one council member absent.
Nathan Bland was appointed to the Rockdale Municipal Development District Board of Directors.
Several companies applied for consultant/management services and engineering contractors to handle pre-award and postaward services pertaining to FEMA Hazard Mitigation and grant applications for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. These projects will provide emergency generators for the city to avoid water and sewer closures due to the cold weather we experienced earlier this year.
The city’s new contract with BVR for waste disposal services required the council to amend utility rates and charges.
The council took action on casting votes for the three nominated candidates for the Milam County Appraisal District Board of Directors for the period ending Dec. 31, 2023. The votes were split evenly between the candidates.
A company wanted to deviate from the rules of the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding placement of their sign which would require a variance in WayMar Plaza Shopping Center. The council deferred to the to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
