In several recent stories The Reporter has made reference to the City of Rockdale’s pledge to not raise water rates this fiscal year.
That’s true for the general public.
However, since April, owners of multi-unit buildings have seen large water bill increases.
That’s because in February the city council, okayed a major billing change, treating each unit of a multi-unit dwelling as a separate water customer for billing purposes.
That raised an additional $129,000 in revenue for the city, helping to forestall an overall water rate increase, but increasing bills substantially for owners of such multi-unit buildings.
