Rockdale hours 8 to 2 every Saturday during month

A coordinated effort to clean up Milam County in May has begun and it’s about to get bigger.

More than 8,500 tires, and other items, were collected Saturday at the Precinct 2 County Barn in Cameron as a line of vehicles stretched for a half-mile at times.

Rockdale’s spring Stash Your Trash Day is rescheduled for this Saturday at Fair Park. (See story on this page).

And all four county barns will host cleanup events throughout this month. Rockdale’s Precinct 3 County Barn will also begin this Saturday but pay attention to the schedules in this story. Hours and what will not be accepted are different for some locations.

TIRES—The tire collection was sponsored by Central Texas Resource Conservation and Development.

The tires will be recycled for environmental uses.

ROCKDALE-THORNDALE—Cleanup dates at Rockdale’s Pct. 3 County Barn, located at 1-7 North FM 487 (north end of Ackerman Street), and Thorn-dale’s Precinct 4 County Barn, 501 East US 79, are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday in May beginning this Saturday.

Items that won’t be accepted in Rockdale and Thorn-dale:

Tires, hazardous materials (paint, paint cans, gas, fuel containers, oil, oil containers and similar items), large appliances (stoves, dishwashers. air conditioner units etc.). liquids, solvents, Freon, chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, motorized vehicles, manure, dead animals, computers, televisions, batteries, asbestos, biohazard or medical waste, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs.

CAMERON—Dates and hours for Cameron’s Precinct 1 County Barn, located at 3106 North Travis are Mondays though Thursdays through the entire month of May from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items not accepted in Cameron: Paint, appliances that contain Freon, tires, older tube-style televisions (flat screens are okay), hazardous materials and medical waste. BUCKHOLTS—Cleanups at Buckholts Pct. 1 County Barn, 600 East Main, are every Saturday in May, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items not accepted in Buckholts: Paint, appliances that contain Freon, tires, older tube-style televisions (flat screens are okay), hazardous materials and medical waste.
