Rockdale ISD prepares for extended closing
With a decision on whether to close Rockdale ISD campuses longer than this week due to the COVOD-19 public health crisis, the district is preparing for the event of an extend closing.
Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo, in the district’s regular board meeting Monday, talked about online, at-home, learning which could be invoked.
That will involve a survey to identify which students don’t have Internet capability.
She said school personnel are attempting to call every student in the district to find out about Internet, find families who need to pick up the free breakfasts and lunches now being provided by the district (see main COVID-19 story, page 1A), check on students’ well-being and pickup any questions families may have for the RISD.
“If you have not received a call please call the school,” she said. “There is someone there to answer the phone through this week. We need this information to move forward. Questions may also be emailed to info@rockdaleisd.net.
The COVID-19 health crisis has far reaching implications for school districts. Dr. Monzingo noted Monday the question of students on buses and “personal space” has not yet been addressed by authorities in the event school resume in the next few weeks.
