On Feb. 15 the Rockdale Tiger gym will be transformed into a college fair for the day.
Several colleges, trade schools, and military representatives will be at Rockdale High School to meet with students from Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale High Schools. Students will be invited to visit with representatives, ask questions and begin planning their futures.
We have seen students trying to decide on plans for after high school but are unaware of all the options available. College attendance among rural students is much lower than the national average, but studies have shown that students who have been exposed to post-secondary programs are more likely to enroll.
Meeting with representatives of different schools not only helps students decide they want to go to college, but also helps them to realize it is possible. Many of our students are unable to travel hours to visit different schools, so we have decided to bring the schools to them. We will have representatives from colleges including UMHB, Blinn College, A&M Corpus Christi, Gold Star Barber Academy, Marines and many more.
We are excited to continue encouraging our students to pursue higher education and post-secondary opportunities.
