CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting Monday in another teleconferencing session, okayed several tax abatements and reinvestment zones to assist two major business ventures now underway.

One of those is the Whinstone facility at the former Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations where three 60,000-square foot buildings will provide a variety of high-tech services for clients.

As reported in the March 19 Reporter, Chad Harris of Whinstone said the business already has 100 employees and is poised to hire additional ones.

Another business the county assisted Monday is Ben Milam Solar, which is constructing “solar farms” in the far northern part of the county.

County Judge Steve Young said that endeavor will add to Milam County’s tax base.
