At Monday night’s city council meeting the council members unanimously voted to allow James Simonton’s 3G Farm to open a retail store in the building next to Banda’s that used to be a nail salon.

Simonton grows hemp products and will sell THC edibles, oils, creams and even textiles in his boutique.

The State of Texas oversees and sets the legal limits for these type of products, and according to Rockdale Chief of Police Jerry Meadors, “The state has you jump through a lot of hoops in order to be licensed to sell these products, and the fact that Mr. Simonton is now licensed by the state speaks very highly of him.”

The council also decided to keep the two 12-hour days in the upcoming election even though this is no longer a requirement. They decided that having plenty of opportunities to vote before and after work was a plus for the city.

John Williams with the Planning and Zoning Board requested several real estate-related variances and all were passed by the council.

Sherilyn Johnson, Lou Ann Rubio and Wendie Upson were appointed to the Library Board.

Jason Barcak was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board and John Williams was reappointed.
