CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting Monday in regular session in the courthouse, expressed an interest in health care becoming a countywide endeavor.
Healthcare has been a major topic since the closing of Rockdale and Cameron hospitals in 2018.
On May 2 voters in the Rockdale ISD will go to the polls to see if Rockdale’s health care approach can become a South Milam issue.
Collier Perry of Rockdale, representing a group which has been seeking other solutions appeared before commissioners Monday and asked them to approve this resolution:
“Be it resolved that the Milam County Commissioners Court considers health care and the physical well being of everyone who lives in Milam County to be a countywide issue. We will consider what is within our authority to improve the health care system in Milam County.”
Commissioners okayed the resolution. Perry urged appointment of a countywide task force to study health care and make recommendations to the court.
County Judge Steve Young said such a group would “need the right people” including those in the medical profession.
In other business, commissioners heard cleanup of the Richie Thrasher property in Rockdale in nearing completion with trucks making about 200 trips to a landfill near Temple.
