CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting in regular session Monday in the courthouse, heard updates on a couple of economic development prospects for the county.

Precinct 4 Commissioner, and County Judge Pro Tem, Jeff Muegge presided in the absence of County Judge Steve Young and read an update from Young on contacts the judge has received on possible developments.

Young noted a Dallas area entrepreneur had contacted him about bringing another cryptocurrency mining operation to the county.

That venture is viewed as smaller than the current Bitmain operation now occupying the former Alcoa smelter southwest of Rockdale.

Young’s note said the entrepreneur is talking with Alcoa but also has an alternate site in mind.

That prospective business was reported in a Jan. 17 Reporter story which also noted a group is working toward bringing a solar farm to the area.

Young noted the group has identified three possible sites for the solar farm, one near the Alcoa property and the other two in the Minerva area.

He said the project is envisioned as 2,000 acres, generating about 200 megawatts of electricity.

Young’s report to commissioners also noted that preliminary talks are underway concerning a loading dock venture in Milam County.

NO FIREWORKS—Commissioners decided not to allow sale of fireworks for Texas Independence Day in March after Cameron Fire Chief Henry Horelica cited concern over potential grass fires.

Also during Monday’s meeting, commissioners approved the annual Child Protective Services contract, Bartlett Electric Moving Company’s plan moving power poles and lines on CR464, and okayed going out for bids for labor on building a bridge on CR304.

Commissioners also approved the required racial profiling report from the county’s constables
