CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners on Monday adopted a budget based on the current 73-cent tax rate..

“I think we are doing an outstanding job with or tax rate because we are not raising the tax rate,” said County Judge Steve Young

The 73-cent rate per $100 evaluation, is the same rate as the county has had for the past two budgets, he noted.

The budget for the coming year is balanced with expected revenue at $12,934, 115 and expected expenses at the same amount, he said.

No one spoke at a public hearing on the budget and tax rate.

Judge Young told the commissioners he was proud of the county efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

“We are slowing the spread of the virus,” he said.

As an example he pointed to the Friday night football game cancellation by the Milano school district superintendent because of a COVID-19 test.

One of the Milano staff involved with the football program tested positive late last week, the judge said.

“Had free testing not been so readily available with rapid results, we would not have known and the spreading would have continued,” Young said.

“The virus is alive and well. It is our civic duty to wear a mask. Don’t make excuses,” he said.
