Milam County commissioners voted to hold a June 28 public hearing on the creation of three Milam County Reinvestment Zones.

The zones are necessary in granting tax abatements to entice three solar energy ventures into coming into the county and creating an $800 million investment.

The three projects are Milano Solar which would be near Milano on 2,000 acres off US 79, the second would be Sandow Solar and the other is Cattleman Solar Park in the northeast area of the county.

Commissioners also voted to make EBCO of Cameron the general contractor for the renovation of the buildings that once housed a hospital in Cameron.

EBCO first bid on the project last year and this year when the county called for rebids after learning it had received a $3.77-million grant to finance the renovations.

EBCO, which has constructed buildings for brands such as Hilton, Starbucks and CEFCO, submitted the same bid of $3,661,000.

Commissioners also selected members for the Milam County Medical Task Force created last month.

The members are Collier Perry, Ward Roddam, Troy Zinn, Courtney Paulsen, Nathan Fuchs, John Egger, Royal Johnson, Robert Kirkpatrick and Kain Dodd.

The group will meet to come up with ideas to address after-hours health care, the possibility of adding a fourth ambulance to service the county and possible uses for the buildings that used to house the hospital in Rockdale.

Young noted the members’ task won’t be easy.

“It’s going to take money whatever the decisions are,” he said.

The committee has until the end of the year to make non-binding recommendations to the commissioners court.
