Commissioners approve tax abatements for two solar farms

County Commissioners approved the proposed 2022 budget of $22,871,036 at Monday’s commissioners court and it may not raise taxes next year. However, depending on your valuation, property owners could still pay more than last year.

The budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year’s bud get by $2,187,461 which is a 9.424% increase from last year’s budget. The property tax revenue will be raised from new property added to the tax roll which is projected to be $166,471.

Two more solar farms, Ben Milam 5 and Two Rivers, received tax abatement.

The Ben Milam 5 farm is a $210 million investment with 200 megawatts. Construction will start in January of 2023 and will be finished by December 2023.

The Two Rivers farm is a $193 million investment with 350 megawatts which will provide Milam County with 200 construction jobs. Construction starts in April of 2024 and will take one year to complete.
