A special meeting of the Rockdale Municipal Development District was canceled Monday shortly before it was set to begin at 6 p.m., when members were served with a temporary restraining order from 20th District Court of Milam County.

The order from the judge came after a filing Monday afternoon on behalf of Kara Clore who was fired from her position as executive director of the MDD in a 5-2 vote by the group’s board of directors in October.

The order restrains the “City Council and City Council/District Board of Directors named in Plaintiff’s petition, from acting on behalf the Rockdale Municipal Development District or taking any action that affects the Rockdale Municipal Development District.”

The order also sets a hearing on Clore’s application for temporary injunction for Nov. 30 at 9 a.m., in 20th District Court at the courthouse in Cameron.

At that time it will be determined whether the current temporary restraining order “should be made a temporary injunction pending a full trial on the merits.”

Clore was let go from her position at an Oct. 5 special meeting for, according to the minutes of the meeting, “a repeated pattern of refusal to follow instructions of the board...”

In October, Clore’s legal representation, Watson Legal of Cameron, sent a letter to the city of Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District warning of possible legal action because “City Council members held an unlawful meeting where it acted on behalf of the MDD (‘District’) and terminated my client for all sorts of claimed reasons—at will, no cause and non-responsiveness to city council, and the reason agreed to after-the-fact, vaguely couched as ‘Just Cause’.”

“Throughout this process, my goal is to educate the citizens of Rockdale on the actions of the elected city leaders, and make them aware that they are not acting on the best interest of the community,” Clore told The Rockdale Reporter.

Neither a spokeswoman for the MDD nor the city nor the city’s legal representation would comment on the matter at this time.
