Citing a rising number of COVID-19 cases, Rockdale Independent School District is making changes to the calendar.

Due to the rising numbers of COVID cases in our district, we have decided to make the following changes to our calendar:

“Safety is always a priority for our students and our staff. Extended breaks throughout the year have proven helpful to allow time for our campuses to receive periodic deep sanitizing,” Superintendent Denise Monzingo told The Rockdale Reporter.

The changes are:

• Thursday—Student holiday/Staff Development Day.

• Friday—Campuses closed for deep cleaning.

• Monday—Student and staff holiday, which was previously scheduled.

“Every day our maintenance staff works hard to ensure our buildings are safe and clean for our students and staff. During this time while students are away, they will be able to more thoroughly deep clean all campus buildings,” a district spokeswoman wrote in a news release. “As we continue this spring semester, we are asking for your assistance in minimizing the spread of COVID. Please encourage your students to protect themselves and those around them by wearing masks, social distancing, and monitoring for symptoms daily.”
