Rockdale police say the nightly curfew seems to be working well since hours were extended due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Police are also taking as many precautions as they can to guard themselves against becoming infected with the virus.

By ordinance, Rockdale already had a teen curfew but by order of the county, hours have been extended to 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

“We really haven’t had much trouble enforcing it,” Lt. Stephen Goodrich said. “We’ve had a few calls about after-hours gatherings of teens but usually we just go and explain the situation to them and they go home.”

Police did arrest a 14-year-old male juvenile around 6 a.m. last Wednesday in connection with a break-in and attempted vehicle theft. (See police report, page 3A.)

Goodrich said police have received N-95 masks from the county and will wear them to protect themselves.

“We also have quick tests available for our use and if an officer tests positive he or she will immediately go into a 14-day quarantine.
