Deadline is Monday to enter the 2020 Miss Rockdale Fair Queen Pageant, set for Oct. 10 at the Kay Theatre and online.
But the pageant will be different because of the pandemic.
“There are not going to be spectators and we switched it to the Kay Theatre,” said Tamra Vance who is taking entries for the 2020 queen title. (Entry blank on page 7A).
Organizers hope to have the event online, but the details on how the streaming will work have not yet been sorted out.
Contestants will compete in interview, western wear and evening gown categories in the pageant annually sponsored by the Rockdale Fair Association.
“The interviews will be prior to the pageant with the western wear and evening gowns at the pageant,” Vance said.
The girl who earns the crown will then appear in the livestock show winners photos and may be asked during the coming year to attend Rockdale Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremonies, she said.
The competition usually draws 10 to 12 entrants, and there is still time for girls to enter before the 6 p.m. Sept. 21 deadline. A photo must accompany the application.
The pageant will be Oct. 10 and the entrants parents will be allowed in to watch the show.
A group picture of the girls entered in the pageant is set for Sept. 28, and there will be a practice run Oct. 4 starting at 5 p.m. in the Rockdale High School auditorium.
