As the longest-serving news source creating original content for our community, we are finding ourselves needing to reach out and ask for your support to continue our mission.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, we are experiencing a drop in advertising revenue, which is a newspaper’s main source of income. We are seeing this even as we see our website traffic the highest it has ever been. That means people are looking for news coverage from a trusted source.
Some newspapers have suspended print publication, while others are cutting print frequency. Some are turning to layoffs and furloughs, even as the need for strong journalism about the crisis is in very high demand.
At The Reporter, we are expanding our coverage of Rockdale and Milam County during this pandemic because it is essential for the community. The Reporter staff is working long, hard hours to bring you credible, up-to-date information on the novel coronavirus outbreak.
We are posting stories online and keeping up with the ever-changing situation with schools, businesses and employees and the health of the community. We are adding an email newsletter that subscribers and non-subscribers will get via their email.
For 147 years The Rockdale Reporter has given the community news and watchdog reporting of community events, civic engagement and civil discourse.
In order for The Reporter to continue, you can help with a tax-deductible donation to be sure we can keep our staff going. Help us today and we’ll help you in the challenging weeks and months to come. We will invest your support right back into expanding our news coverage as much as we can possibly can.
We’re dependent on the people of Rockdale. Help us today with your deduction and we’ll help Rockdale face and overcome this once-in-a-lifetime crisis. Thank you for your consideration to join us as a partner. –KEC
