Winners were announced in the City of Milano Christmas decorations contest. Taking first place was Nellie Ryan, second place was Billy and Billie Baggerly and third place was Bryce and Regina Taylor.
PARADE—It was a nice day for a parade on Saturday, as the annual Milano Christmas parade wove its way around downtown.
Best overall parade entry was from the Milano Junior High cheerleaders.
In the floats division, first place was Milano ISD art students Sweet Shoppe, second as Milano Elementary Kindergarten classes and third went to Milam County Sheriff’s Department.
In the bicycle/walking/ small animals division, first place went to the Girl Scouts of Milam County walkers, second was Troy Montoya and third was Tucker Montoya.
In the small motorized/ battery operated division, first place went to Milano Area Girls Scouts, second was Katelyn Battles and third was AJ Sanchez.
In the vehicles/tractors division, first place went to Tommy Standard, second was Joel Corona and Deborah Hill and third was Ruben Martinez.
In the horses/wagon’s division, first place was Titus Briden, second was Wendy and Katelynn Stewart and third was Cade Gordon.
This year’s parade theme was “Old Time Country Christmas.” After the parade, everyone got to enjoy a free turkey and dressing meal with all the trimmings sponsored by the city at the civic center.
CANDLELIGHT SERVICE—Friendship Baptist Church will have a candlelight service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, according to pastor Daryl Mize. The church is located about seven miles south of Milano on SH 36 towards Caldwell.
CHILI SUPPER— The Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper set for Feb. 16 at the fire station.
The event will conclude with the drawing of 10 big prizes for the group’s annual fundraiser. Tickets for the annual drawing are now on sale and are$5 each or five for $20.
Prizes include: two Henry Golden Boy 22 LR, two Taurus Public Defender .45/410, Remington 700, Marlin 336W 30-30, Remington 870 Shotgun, Ruger American Bolt Action 22 LR, Taurus 738 TCP 380 and $100 Academy gift card. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION—Milano Elementary School is collecting Box Tops for Education again this school year and there are several that can be found on all those items you use during the holiday baking season. Those little coupons equal free money for our school and students. Let me know if you need me to swing by and pick them up, or you can send them to Milano Elementary School with your favorite student.
