Another national chain is planning to open a pizza restaurant in Rockdale.
Domino’s is working on the former AAA Medical Oxygen Supply—next to Tractor Supply in the former Walmart building at 1500 West Cameron—and looks to open sometime in mid-fall, according to owner Mike Schweitzer.
Schweitzer also owns the new Domino’s in Cameron, which has been open about six weeks, and has a couple of other Domino’s in the area.
‘GROWTH’—Why Rock-dale and why now?
“I see growth in this area,” he said. Schweitzer said Bit-main bringing its cryptocurrency mining operation to the former Rockdale smelter was a factor.
“We wanted to bring Domino’s into Milam County,” he said. “The Austin market is about franchised out. This looks like a good place to be.”
Schweitzer said the Rock-dale restaurant will open with 16 employees and then probably go down to about a dozen once the business is up and running.
Texas Workforce Solutions held a job interview session for prospective Domino’s employees on Thursday.
GRAB-N-GO—The Rockdale restaurant, like many of the nationwide chain, won’t be targeted toward sit-down dining. “It’s a grab-and-go,” Schweitzer said. “We, of course, have home delivery, the trademark of Domino’s, orders to go and we feature the entire Domino’s menu.” As of September, one year ago, Domino’s Pizza had over 16,000 restaurants in 5,701 cities and towns worldwide. That included 5,649 in the United States.
Schweitzer has been with Domino’s since 1984.
“I started out as a driver and ended up owning some of the restaurants,” he said.
