The Texas Historical Commission (THC) recognizes and honors worthy accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage. Rockdale’s favorite historian, Dr. Lucile Estell, was awarded the prestigious Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award for Historic Preservation at THC’s awards ceremony last Saturday in Austin for all of her work on the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail, culminating in her seminal book titled Images of America: Rockdale which was published July 16, 2012.
Estell has been on the board of the Milam County Historical Commission for many years and is a member of the Three Missions Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The THC offers a variety of awards to recognize worthy accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage.
