A 46-year-old Rock-dale man who was involved in a two-vehicle collision that injured an RPD sergeant earlier this month was indicted in connection with the incident by a Milam County Grand Jury on Thursday.

Larry Sundance Young was indicted for intoxication assault on a peace officer and DWI-third or more offense in connection with the collision at the Scarbrough-Belton corner June 16.

Sgt. Jody Tillery, who was responding to a call, sustained a broken elbow.

Tillery has returned to duty, according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich but has restrictions.

“He is on ‘light duty,’ and is prohibited from driving,” Goodrich said.

‘DOG CRUELTY’—

Goodrich said a 59-year-old Rockdale man was arrested Friday in connection with an incident in which a neighhbor’s dog was shot with a pellet gun and had to be euthanized.

Jose Luis Santana Vargas was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animal causes serious bodily injury.

He was released after posting $15,000 bond.

Goodrich said the pellet went “all the way through” the animal.

“It was a small dog and had to be put down,” Goodrich said.

CITATIONS—Police issued 63 speeding citations during the past week.

Other citations issued included eight for displaying expired registration, three for failure to report change of address/name, two for failure to maintain financial responsibility-second offense and one each for failure to yield right of way, running a stop sign, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.

CALLS—Offi cers responded to 106 calls for service during the past week and there were 93 calls received at RPD through the 911 emergency system.
