Rockdale’s f irst ever drone show sponsored in partnership by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, the City of Rockdale, RIOT Platforms and the Sesquicentennial Committee, drew a huge crowd Thursday night at Fair Park at the July 4th Celebration. All the streets around Fair Park as well as the parking lots of Brookshire Bros. and Tractor Supply were full of people watching the amazing show.
So many of Rockdale’s landmarks and other historical places were represented in the show including the city’s railroad beginnings, a Rockdale Tiger, a bucking horse, The 1895 and more. The first “image” that was presented drew thunderous applause as the drones spelled out ROCKDALE, TEXAS in the sky (see photo, right).
This truly unique event was put on by Fort Worthbased Sky Elements Drone Shows who had help from a group of Rockdale citizens to decide on which elements would be showcased.
And who do we have to thank for this $40,000 show? The Rockdale Chamber of Commerc e got $20,000 in HOT funds from the City of Rockdale. The Sesquicentennial Committee and the chamber each committed to raise $10,000 each.
“RIOT was the major funding partner, donating over $12,000 towards the drone show, fireworks and a new time capsule. Their major sponsorship played an oversized role in making the event possible,” said city manager Barbara Holly.
USA Technologies, the Rockdale Downtown Association and Walmart each put in $5,000 and other donations were received by Done Right Roofing, Brannon Industrial Group (BIG), Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Citizens National Bank and TX Rec Land.
