heat bring ants inside
Body

As the drought and high temperatures have continued. Pests such as ants, cockroaches, crickets and more are increasingly seeking shelter indoors in order to find cooler temperatures and sources of water and food. This is especially true for ants as they tend to find their way inside with the least diffi culty.

Continually high temperatures drive ants inside more aggressively due to the lack of substantial food sources and cool temperatures outdoors. The sources where they typically receive water, such as morning dew, puddles and soil moisture are significantly lessened than is typical, therefore encouraging them to pursue sources indoors. Nonetheless, there are a few things that can help prevent their invasion into your home.

First, it is a good idea to apply broadcast fire ant bait to try and reduce the population that may search into the home. While you may not see the mounds that are typical, if you are seeing ants inside, they have a colony near your home and reducing the existing population will lessen those that can enter your home. As usual, be diligent in keeping any food sources closed off, and continuously sweep up crumbs and other potential food sources.

Ants tend to pop up most often in areas where there are water sources such as the kitchen or the bathroom, so avoiding excess water and food crumbs in those areas is extremely important. Make sure to clean all dishes with food residue as ants will be drawn to the sink for moisture.

As the heat and drought persist, ensure you are on the watch for ant activity and take preventive measures in order to prevent their invasion.
