On Friday evening at the Geneva Paceley gym, 40 graduates from the class of 2019 received diplomas in front of their family members, educators and friends.

Faith Walton gave the invocation before class salutatorian Parker Jones gave a speech describing that his classmates would cherish their time at MHS but also that life was just beginning for them.

“I have a lot of people to thank,” Jones said. “My family, friends and teachers and especially Mr. Westbrook for guiding me in track.

“His brother David wasn’t too bad of a guy either.”

Jones ended his speech with telling his class “let’s get ready to rumble.”

Jones will attend Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches to run track and major in kineseology.

Class valedictorian Sierra Stephens also spoke to the crowd describing her journey in high school year-by-year.

“Sophomore year was the hardest,” Stephens said. “You still had a long way to go and no idea where you wanted to go.”

Stephens also told the crowd that she wasn’t active in a lot of Milano extra-curriculars because she dedicated every minute outside of school to raising livestock.

Stephens will attend University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington and will double major in molecular biology and biochemistry.

The ceremony then had a handing of the roses where graduates gave loved ones a flower as a token of their appreciation and a speech from Superintendent Robert Westbrook thanking the class for all they’ve done for Milano High School.

The evening ended with a benediction by Mason Westbrook.
