Early filings for county positions were announced last week by Milam County Judge Bill Whitmire. The deadline to file 6 p.m. Dec. 11 so this story could change in the next few weeks.

Two positions, so far, will be contested races. As current District Attorney Bill Torrey is retiring next year, both Assistant DA Brian Price and Cameron Police Chief Lonnie Gosch are running for District Attorney.

Four people are running for Pct. 2 Constable which is being vacated by Charlie West. They are Amanda Sanders Duncan, Carlton Scott, Candace Staton and Doug Veach.

Uncontested races as of this writing are District Court Judge John Youngblood and Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore.

Also uncontested are Pct. 1 Commissioner Henry Hubnik and Pct. 3 Commissioner Art Neal. The constables of Pcts. 1, 3 and 4, Oscar Lopez, Jay Bethard and Kirby Shoemake are also running unopposed.
