Early voting begins Monday for May 5 Rockdale city and school elections and local voters have three contested races to decide, one of them a three-person race.

It’s a combined election. Both city and Rockdale ISD residents will cast early ballots at City Hall, corner of Cameron and Wilcox (US 79 and FM 487).

(That’s also the location for election day voting May 5).

Sharon Cloud, Richard Coppedge and Tim Ramey are vying for the east ward city council position being vacated by Willie Phillips.

Jason Barcak and Monique Gebhart are candidates for the west ward seat currently held by Colby Fisher.

On the school board ballot, Place 7 incumbent Julia Cardona is challenged by Ryan Warner.

Three trustees are unopposed for new terms, Raymon Puente in Place 1, Troy Zinn in Place 2 and Charles Miles in Place 4.

HOURS—Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 27.

Extended voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday April 30 and Tuesday, May 1.

Voting hours election day, May 5, are also 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ELIGIBILITY—A reminder, city voters cast ballots in east and west wards and there’s one election in each being decided this year.

If you don’t know in what ward you reside, check your current (yellow) voter registration card in the box labeled “CITY.”

If it’s RKDE” you are in the east ward. If “RKDW” you are in the west ward. If it’s blank you are not inside the city limits and cannot vote in city elections.

See candidate statements on page 5A of this week’s Reporter .

It’s the same with the school board election. Look in the box labeled “SCHOOL.”

If it says “RKDI”—you live in the Rockdale Independent School District.

A photo ID is required to cast a ballot unless there are special circumstances.

For most people that will be a driver’s license, or any of six other state or federal documents bearing a photo.

If you don’t possess “and cannot reasonably obtain” one of those IDs, some other forms of ID may be accepted.
