Rockdale Earth Day held their 10th annual Day of Service on Friday morning with several projects going on around town.
The day started in the RHS gymnasium at 8:30 with about 50 student volunteers signed up to work. Before they left on buses to their assigned projects, the Rockdale Rotary Club provided the students with breakfast tacos. Assisting in the efforts were the City of Rockdale and RIOT Platforms. USA Technologies and All Saints Episcopal Church of Cameron provided monetary funds to help offset the costs of the work.
Some of the projects included a re-set of landscaping at the RISD Administration Building, planting flowers at the Rockdale Senior Center, litter pickup on us 79 by the students in the RHS National Honor Society, a clean-up at the Old City Cemetery and the MARC Center.
“Each day brings new opportunities to better our city and community,” said David Melton, chairperson of Rockdale Earth Day. “our Annual Day of Community Service being a foundational part of our mission to educate and serve the community on matters germane to the environment.”
The City of Rockdale will soon announce its anti-litter campaign in connection with Earth Day.
