TISD school board discusses spending
THORNDALE–The Thorndale School Board voted 7-0 to approve budget amendments related to purchasing four new buses and athletic equipment at their Sept. 16 board meeting.
Rebecca Peel brought three amendments to take care of expenditures for items that did not arrive before the end of the fiscal year in August, according to board notes. “She clarified that one of the new buses and some athletic equipment that was ordered in the summer did not arrive on time so funds for those expenditures rolled into fund balance and now needed to be taken back out.”
The district will be reimbursed 80 percent through the Volkswagen Mitigation Grant once the buses are received.
OTHER ITEMS–Elementary School Principal Michael Young spoke about tracking students progress and a new community involvement program. Deby Leschber, technology director, talked about a new program for computers and a backup system for the district’s servers to protect and combat against ransomware and viruses.
The board voted 7-0 to approve allowing 4H members extra-curricular status for certain competitions in Milam and William counties. The board approved changing the school calendar to make Dec. 18 and early release day and Dec. 19 a student holiday in order for the district to host elementary and middle school UIL competitions.
