End of an era

At 12-noon Jan. 2, Rockdale will be without a stand-alone pharmacy for the first time ever. CVS Pharmacy has posted a sign saying it is calling it quits for its Rockdale location at 1525 West Cameron (US 79). This year CVS had announced 68 locations would close. In May a list was posted of 46 stores closing across the country. Rockdale was not on that list. In November the company announced it would close 22 more locations but did not identify them. Rockdale will now have two pharmacies, Walmart and Brookshire Brothers. There had previously been many well-remembered, locally owned pharmacies throughout Rock-dale’s history including Walker-Burnett, Morris, Clinic, Prewitt’s and Skrivanek’s.
