Rockdale High School currently has around 460 students. For all of these students, being involved is important when trying to make the most of their high school experience. It is easy to see on Friday nights that we have a large group of students involved in extracurricular activities such as Athletics, Band, Trainers, Golden Girls and even our Flag Runners. Our Cross Country and volleyball teams are also in mid-season. Many of these programs are seeing their largest number of participants, which we are excited to see.
We also offer several clubs and organizations that students can join. Some of these allow for students to give back to their community by encouraging community service. Some focus on academics and some of them allow the students to connect and have fun with other students with similar interests. These clubs include: Rotary Interact, National Honor Society, Student Council, Health Occupations Students of America, Art Club, D&D Club, Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, One Act Play, Astronomy, Moot Court and FCA.
In addition to our clubs, we have multiple students competing in FFA competitions, from poultry judging to creed speaking. There are several students that raise show animals and several that choose to build wood or metal projects. These students do amazing work and have the opportunity to show their work at many competitions. Other students have the opportunity to show their academic skills in UIL Academic competitions. We have expanded the number of competitions we participate in and we have a large number of our students competing. We are hoping that the success we had last year goes even further this year.
There is no doubt that we have many opportunities for students to choose from when it comes to extracurricular activities. We are also extremely excited about what we have to offer students while in school. For a school our size, we offer a significant number of pathways that will help students to reach their goals once they have completed high school. If they plan to attend a four-year university, we offer several dual credit courses and high level academic courses that help them earn college credit.
We also offer pathways in welding, construction, health science, graphic design, education, floral design, business and marketing and information technology. We have even teamed up with Temple College to offer CADD (Computer- Aided Drafting and Design) and Mega Tech (Electromechanical Technology/ Multi-Craft Training) which are classes specifically needed by Samsung.
We are very excited about the opportunities our students have at Rockdale High School. It is important to us that students are able to have many experiences available and an opportunity to get a start on their future. We feel that RHS has a lot to offer and we are excited to see our students jump in and succeed.
