Several 4-H and FFA students throughout Milam County got a big boost to their “going to college” funds at the Rockdale Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Final results from the Rockdale Fair Association showed the 2021 Fair set records for both the youth livestock auction (totaling $622,123.50) and had a combined total of $870,733.50.
In addition to the livestock sale, the total reflects $197,735 in commercial heifers, a $23,710 bake sale (also a record, old record was $18,353 in 2020) and $27,165 in ag mechanics.

INDIVIDUALS—Ten animals sold for more than $10,000 at the 2021 Fair.
Stiles Patin with Thorndale FFA showed the grand champion steer which sold for $37,786. Buyers were Heart Land Materials, Lone Star Paving, Dig Tech Inc., Alpha Paving Industries, McAnulty Land & Cattle, Ferguson Pipe, ROMCO Equipment and Rockdale Country Ford, plus added money.
Kennedy Hobbs with Thorndale 4-H showed the reserve champion steer which brought $44,250. Buyers were Otes and Tina Foster, plus added money. Hobb’s steer is the highest ever paid for an animal in the Fair’s 46-year history.
